Welcome back to term two.

We are back into Technology and we are going to looking at one of the favourite subjects in Technology.  Food Technology!

I will be introduction you in the Foods room.  I will be teaching each boy about hygiene, safety with knives, ovens and elements as well as cooking some recipes that you can make for your family at home.

Primo Pasta Bake

A filling pasta dish which you can make the family for dinner or when you are flatting.  Eat hot or cold the next day for lunch.

Learning Intention
  • Measure ingredients correctly
  • Use an oven safely
  • Use stove top safely

Equipment
Large pot small pot wooden spoon grater chopping board
large knife sieve baking dish

Ingredients
200g pasta shell, macaroni or spirals Paprika
1 large onion 1 clove garlic
1 teaspoon oil with pasta
1 teaspoon oil with onion ½ can tomato puree/chopped tomatoes
½ teaspoon sugar Pinch of salt
½ teaspoon basil ¼ teaspoon marjoram
¼ teaspoon thyme 1 teaspoon chopped parsley
Black pepper ½ cup grated cheese

Method
  1. In a large pot half fill the pot with water and bring water to the boil.  Medium to high temperature. Keep the lid on to retain the steam.
  2. Add a pinch of salt and a tspn of oil.
  3. Add the pasta gradually, stir occasionally and keep the water boiling.  Boil uncovered until tender ‘Al dente’.
  4. Drain in a sieve and toss with a little oil to keep from sticking together.
  5. On a chopping board dice the onion and garlic.
  6. Place into a small saucepan and saute.  When the onion is soft and beginning to turn clear, reduce the heat and add the remaining ingredients except for the cheese and paprika.  Simmer gently over a low heat for a few minutes.
  7. Combine the drained pasta with the tomato mixture in a large pot or large bowl and mix. Pour into a shallow casserole dish.  Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the top, then dust lightly with paprika.
  8. Brown briefly under the grill 100* for a few minutes to form a light crust.

Other alternatives are breadcrumbs, small pieces of ripped bread, or chopped tomatoes on top with cheese then grill.
